Who would you peel an orange for?

The Weekly đź“° HUBdate đź“°

If you’re reading this, I’d peel an orange for you ❤️

Truly, I would!

But what’s up with this trend on social media? Why are we defining our relationships based off of whether or not they’d peel us a fruit? A bit of a stretch, isn’t it?

Stretch or not, we're peeling back layers in this edition to reveal some juicy stories- from Mr. Beast's blockbuster deal that's redefining content streaming, to Warren Buffet’s time being as good as a commodity.

Before we get to the good stuff, I have a little announcement to make- this newsletter is shifting gears!

Starting from now, we'll be publishing only 2 editions a month. That's 24 editions in 2024, each packed with twice the insight, humor, and love.

Because good things come to those who wait, right? Get your oranges ready, and let’s get to work!

Beast of a Deal...

This YouTube sensation has inked a staggering $100M deal with Prime Video.

The twist? The first episode of his new series will premiere on his YouTube channel before making its grand entrance on Prime Video.

Mr. Beast, known for his over-the-top stunts and heartwarming philanthropy, is redefining what it means to be a content creator in 2024. This move is more than just a content shuffle; it's a groundbreaking blend of traditional and digital media platforms.

But let's talk numbers and impact. Mr. Beast, with his 234 million subscribers (and counting), isn't just a person; he's a phenomenon.

Mr. Beast's landmark deal with Prime marks a pivotal moment in digital media. It highlights his vast influence and the mutual benefits for influencers and streaming platforms. Influencers like Mr. Beast, who are driving a 70% surge in audience engagement over traditional media, offer streaming services access to a dedicated and interactive audience.

This partnership not only showcases the growing clout of online creators but also signals a potential shift in the entertainment industry, with more collaborations between digital influencers and major platforms on the horizon.

In the wake of Mr. Beast’s groundbreaking deal with Prime, a special nod to Reed Duchscher, whose visionary leadership at Night Media is not just shaping influencer careers like Mr. Beast's but is also at the forefront of transforming the entertainment landscape, bridging the gap between digital influencers and major streaming platforms.

Orange You Glad?

Now, let's peel into something a bit more... fruity đź¤

Originating on TikTok, the "orange peel theory" has become a quirky litmus test for relationships.

As explained by TikTok user "annabhamm", this trend involves one partner peeling an orange for the other, symbolizing the importance of small acts of service in a relationship- a concept that resonates deeply with Gen Z and Millennials.

This trend caught on like wildfire, turning a simple gesture into a viral sensation.

It's not just about the orange; it's about the message behind it.

To be completely honest, when I first saw this, it left me scratching my head. But after seeing brandsquickly jumped on this zesty bandwagon, integrating the orange-peeling frenzy into their marketing strategies.

From fashion labels to tech giants, everyone found a way to incorporate this seemingly mundane act into a powerful branding tool. It's a classic example of how quickly trends can emerge and evolve on social media, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Swiggy is just one of these brands- ads from Netflix , BOAT International Media, Domino's, Myntra, and AJIO deserve the shoutout too.

But what does this say about our culture?

It shows that we're constantly seeking new, innovative ways to express ourselves and connect with others. It's a testament to the power of social media in shaping trends and influencing consumer behaviour.

And let's be honest, it's also a bit of fun in a world that can sometimes take itself too seriously.

So, whether you're a pro at peeling oranges or just enjoy watching others do it, remember: sometimes, it's the simple things in life that bring us together and spark joy- it also reminds me of one of my favourite poems 🙂

I’m linking it here in case you need a little pick-me-up today!

Buffet(’s) Time!

Let's talk about a different kind of investment– one that involves time rather than money.

Warren Buffett, the legendary investor known for his wisdom and philanthropy, has taken charity to a new level by auctioning off his time on eBay.

Every year, Buffett offers a chance to have lunch with him, with the proceeds going to charity. This isn't just any lunch; it's an opportunity to sit down with one of the most successful investors of our time.

And people are willing to pay big for it – we're talking millions.

In 2023, the winning bid was a jaw-dropping $4.6 million. That's right, someone paid millions for a few hours of Buffett's time.

Talk about an expensive lunch!

But it's not just about the lunch; it's about the cause.

The proceeds go to the Glide Foundation, which helps the homeless in San Francisco.

This annual event not only raises significant funds for a noble cause but also highlights the value of time and expertise. It's a reminder that sometimes, the most valuable thing we can offer is our time and knowledge.

As we wrap up this edition, let's take a moment to appreciate the power of giving, whether it's through charity, sharing insights, or even peeling an orange for someone special.
